Fencing brothers make their point
BIG FUTURE: Teenager fencing starlet Lyle Bryant, left, in action (s)
FENCING brothers Lyle and Acland Bryant have been putting plenty of opponents to the sword.
The pair, from Barwick, competed at the Birmingham International fencing competition over Easter, against opponents from across Europe.
Acland, 20, grabbed a silver medal, knocking out his brother, St Edmunds College pupil Lyle, 17, who finished 14th, along the way.
Lyle has been named in the British men’s cadet foil squad, competing across Europe. He claimed a bronze medal at the Public Schools Fencing Competition in the men’s senior foil category in March.
He has also been selected for the British men’s cadet foil squad, competing against fencers from around the world in competitions throughout Europe. Despite having another four years before he reaches the senior category, he is already ranked 26th in the senior national rankings.
Acland is currently in the senior top 10. His successes in the last year have included a team foil gold at the Junior Commonwealth Games.
He was also voted Sportsman of the Year at Royal Holloway University of London.
